If you would like to change the shape, colour or size of your front teeth, composite bonding and veneers are two of the most popular options. Both can give you a lovely, natural-looking smile, but they are quite different treatments. Here is how to decide which might suit you.
Composite bonding uses a tooth-coloured resin that your dentist applies directly to your teeth, then shapes and polishes by hand. It is ideal for fixing chips, closing small gaps, evening out edges and improving the shape of teeth.
In most cases, little or no drilling is needed, and treatment is usually completed in a single visit without anaesthetic.
Veneers are thin shells that cover the front of your teeth. They can be made from composite (either built up chairside or made in a laboratory) or from porcelain. Porcelain veneers are made by a dental technician and bonded onto the teeth, usually after a small amount of the tooth surface has been gently shaped.
A cosmetic consultation costs £50, with a £25 deposit that is refundable against treatment.
Composite bonding is often a great choice if you want a subtle improvement, would like to keep your natural teeth as untouched as possible, or are working to a tighter budget.
Veneers may suit you better if you want a bigger change in colour or shape across several teeth, or a longer-lasting result that resists staining.
Some patients choose to straighten their teeth with Invisalign® first, then finish with bonding or whitening for the best result.
