Dental emergencies can be painful and worrying. Whether you have a severe toothache, a broken tooth, swelling or a lost filling, our team keeps time aside each day to see patients who need urgent help.
Call us as early in the day as possible, and we will do our best to see you promptly. Our priority is to get you out of pain and stabilise the problem, then plan any further treatment you need.
Emergency fees depend on whether you are an NHS or private patient and the treatment needed. We always explain costs before we begin.
Any situation involving significant pain, infection, swelling, bleeding or physical damage to a tooth that requires prompt attention. If you are unsure, call us; we would always rather hear from you and help you assess whether you need to be seen urgently.
We recommend calling ahead so we can prepare for your arrival and ensure you are seen as efficiently as possible. Walk-ins can sometimes be accommodated, but availability cannot be guaranteed. Calling takes a matter of minutes and means we are ready for you.
We will always do our best to help someone in pain, regardless of whether they are already a patient with us. Call us and explain your situation; we will try to find you an appointment as quickly as possible.
Pick up the tooth by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently with water or milk if it is dirty, and try to re-insert it into the socket if you can. If not, keep it moist in a glass of milk or held between your cheek and gum. Call us immediately; the sooner you are seen, the better the chance of saving the tooth.
A swelling around a tooth or in the jaw, particularly if accompanied by persistent throbbing pain or fever, is likely to be a dental abscess. This needs urgent attention. Call us right away, and if swelling is spreading rapidly, seek medical attention as well.
Yes, ideally as soon as you can. A lost filling leaves the tooth exposed and vulnerable. We can often see you quickly to place a temporary or permanent restoration, which will relieve the sensitivity and protect the tooth.
An emergency appointment at Castle Street Dental costs £50. This covers the assessment and any immediate treatment carried out at the appointment. If further work is needed, we will discuss the cost before proceeding.
That depends on what was found and what was done. Some situations are fully resolved at the emergency appointment; others may require follow-up treatment such as a root canal, crown or extraction. We will explain exactly what is needed and give you a clear plan before you leave.
Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are the best prevention. Many problems that cause sudden pain, decay, infection, and cracked teeth develop over time and can be caught early if you attend regularly. We would be happy to support you with ongoing preventive care.
