As a practice that offers both NHS and private care, we are often asked which is better. The honest answer is that both have their place, and many of our patients use a mix of the two. Here is a fair, balanced comparison to help you decide what is right for you.
The NHS provides all the treatment that is clinically necessary to keep your mouth, teeth and gums healthy. That includes check-ups, fillings, root canal treatment, extractions, crowns, bridges and dentures.
The main limitations are that availability can be limited, appointment times are more structured, and there is less choice of materials and cosmetic options.
Private care costs more, but options like our membership plan and 0% finance can make it more affordable.
You do not have to choose one or the other. Many patients have their routine care on the NHS and choose private options for specific treatments. For example, an NHS check-up with a private white filling, or NHS dental care with private teeth whitening. Your dentist will always explain what is available on the NHS and what the private alternatives cost.
NHS care might suit you if: you want affordable, essential dental care, or you qualify for free treatment.
Private care might suit you if: you want more choice and flexibility, cosmetic treatment, or treatments like implants and Invisalign®.
Our membership plan might suit you if: you would like private routine care for a fixed monthly cost of £19.95, with two check-ups and two hygiene visits a year and discounts on treatment.
We will never pressure you into private treatment. Whatever you choose, you will get the same friendly team and honest advice. Call us on 01494 527 971 to talk through your options.
