New to high wycombe? How to register with a dental practice

Moving house comes with a long to-do list, and finding a new dentist is often near the bottom. But leaving it until you have toothache is never ideal. Whether you have just moved to high wycombe from london, relocated for work or moved across town, here is a simple guide to getting yourself and your family set up with a local dental practice.

Why it is worth doing sooner rather than later

Dental problems rarely arrive at a convenient time. If you already have a practice that knows you, getting an appointment when something goes wrong is much easier. Regular check-ups also mean small issues are spotted early, when they are quicker, simpler and cheaper to fix.

If you have children, getting them settled with a new dentist early also helps keep their visits feeling familiar and relaxed.

NHS or private?

One of the first things to think about is whether you would like NHS or private care, or a mix of both. NHS dental care covers everything that is clinically necessary to keep your mouth healthy, with charges set nationally. Private care offers more flexibility with appointment times and a wider choice of treatments and materials.

At Castle Street Dental Practice, we offer both. Many of our patients choose NHS care for their routine dentistry and private care for treatments such as teeth whitening or Invisalign®. You can read more about how this works on our NHS page.

What to look for in a new practice

  • A friendly, welcoming team: you should feel comfortable asking questions and never rushed
  • Clear pricing: fees should be easy to find and explained before any treatment starts
  • Care for the whole family: a practice that sees children and adults makes life simpler
  • Convenient location: somewhere easy to get to from home, work or school
  • Good reviews: what other local patients say is often the best guide

What to bring to your first appointment

When you come in for your first visit, it helps to bring a list of any medications you take, details of any recent dental treatment, and proof of exemption if you are claiming free NHS treatment. If you have had x-rays taken at your previous practice, we may be able to request them.

Joining Castle Street Dental Practice

We are based at 21 castle street, right in the centre of high wycombe and around a two-minute walk from the station. Our team includes experienced dentists, hygienists and a reception team who will help you get settled.

Your first visit is a full new patient examination, where we get to know you, check your teeth and gums and talk through anything you would like to discuss. A private new patient examination costs £60, and NHS examinations are charged at band 1.
